The differential toxicity of ammonium salts.

چکیده
The relationship between liver disease and ammonia toxicity has been known since the discovery of meat intoxication in Eck fistula dogs (1-4). The similarity between this syndrome and clinical hepatic coma stimulated the study of ammonia toxicity in humans. This proceeded from oral administration (5-10) to intravenous infusion (11, 12) and finally to the development of an "ammonia tolerance test" (13, 14). Ammonia toxicity studies have been performed in animals by the intravenous (15-24), oral, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal routes (25-29). Many different ammonium compounds were used in the above studies with the tacit assumption that their toxicities were similar. In order to test that assumption, intravenous LD50's were determined in mice under controlled conditions.

Ammonium salts as economical and eco-friendly N-sources applied to green, simple and scale-up synthesis of trialkyl amines in water
We have introduced a selective synthesis of tertiary amines using alkyl halide and ammonium salts as the amine sources in water. This green process has outstanding superiorities, such as being eco-friendly, possessing ammonium salts, and using water as a green solvent in the absence of organic ligands or catalysts. It is worth mentioning that the presence of t-Butyl alcohol and potassi...
متن کاملConductometric Study of the Thermodynamics of Micellization of Sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) in the Presence of Some Aromatic Ammonium Salts
The effect of three organic aromatic salts - Phenyltrimethylammonium (PhTMAB), benzyltrimethylammonium (BzTMAB) and benzyltrimethylammonium (BzTEAB) bromides - on the micellization of sodium dodecylsulfate has been investigated by conductometric method. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) values were found to decrease with increase in the concentration of the aromatic ammonium salts. Therm...
متن کاملThe passage of ammonia across the blood-brain-barrier and its relation to blood pH.
Ammonium salts have been shown to have significantly different toxicities (LD,0's) when administered intravenously under controlled conditions (1). This differential toxicity appeared to be related to the change in blood pH induced by each salt. The normal blood pH (7.4) is close enough to the pKbh of ammonia,2 approximately 8.90 at 370 C. (2), so that any change in blood pH would significantly...
متن کاملSupplementation of ammonium bicarbonates for the treatment of fruit cordial wastewater by anaerobic digestion process.
Lack of nitrogenous substrate and buffering capacity have been identified as causing failure in previous work on the treatment of fruit cordial wastewater using anaerobic continuous stirred tank reactors. In this study, ammonium bicarbonate was proposed to be used as the substrate for nitrogenous and buffering resources. In order to determine the toxicity effect of the ammonium salts on the ana...
متن کاملSynthesis of novel conjugates of tetraoxane endoperoxide with bis(quaternary ammonium salts).
Novel water-soluble conjugates of 1,2,4,5-tetraoxane bis(quaternary ammonium salts) were synthesized in a relatively stable crystalline form via four steps starting from methyltrioxorhenium-catalyzed endo-peroxidation of ethyl 4-oxocyclohexanecarboxylate with hydrogen peroxide in hexafluoro-2-propanol. The assay for the in vitro toxicity of water-soluble tetraoxanes 5a-5d to malaria parasites i...
